Our ethics and data standard
This standard applies wherever the Binchika Protocol runs. For Nigeria it implements the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Other countries swap in their own law (for example Kenya's Data Protection Act 2019, Ghana's Data Protection Act 2012, South Africa's POPIA, or Senegal's Law 2008-12), guided by the African Union Convention on Cyber Security and Personal Data Protection (Malabo Convention).
- Consent, clearly asked. You apply by choice, and can withdraw at any time before or after selection.
- Only what is needed. Your full name, state of origin or residence, an email, and ID numbers stored as salted hashes (never the full PVC or NIN). Your name is private: it is used only to check the name you type when you sign the verifier pledge, and only the BinchikAdmin can see it.
- One purpose. Data is used only to screen, select and run the verifier network. It is never used for marketing and never shared with parties.
- Short retention. Applications that are not selected are deleted 90 days after the final election in the cycle.
- Your rights. You can see, correct or delete your data. Use the contact page.
- Assessment first. A data-protection impact assessment is completed and the privacy notice is reviewed before applications open.
- Fair selection. The same published questions, an automated bias check, a regional spread check, and no favours. Applicants are addressed only by their assigned number after selection.
This is our standard, not legal advice. The privacy notice will be reviewed by a qualified data-protection professional before applications open.
